BACOLOD City – Two persons were killed while four others were injured after they figured in a collision at Purok Laroca, Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia, Negros Occidental early Monday.

The fatalities were identified as Christian Jay Tiansay, 31, of Hinigaran town; and Cherryl Maguad, 34, of Victorias City, who were riding a motorcycle, according to Lieutenant John Paul Tabujara, town police chief.

Wounded were four persons on board a canter truck, including its driver Rogelio Endrina, 41, of San Carlos City, the owner, and two helpers.

Tabujara said the truck loaded with pineapples was reportedly speeding from Don Salvador Benedicto town when its left front tire suddenly detached from its axle, causing Endrina to lose control over the truck.

The truck then overlapped to the opposite lane and crashed into the motorcycle parked at the roadside. It dragged the bike a few meters away until it fell on its side and the two riders fell into an irrigation canal, the town police chief added.

The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. The motorcycle was wrecked while pineapples scattered on the road.

Tabujara said the two victims stopped by the roadside when they saw what happened to the truck’s tire.

The two victims were declared dead at a hospital due to head injuries, Tabujara said only Tiansay, who drove the motorcycle, was wearing a helmet.

Tabujara said the four wounded persons suffered minor injuries.

Endrina is now detained at Murcia Municipal Police Station. They are waiting for the decision of the victims’ family on the filing of charges.
