Two teenagers suffered stab wounds following a fight along the shoreline of Zone 13, Calaparan, Arevalo, Iloilo City afternoon of Nov 14.

Police identified the wounded teenagers as Christian Maluto and Alain Evangelista, both 18 years old and residents of Calaparan village, Arevalo.

Major Chen Tañagras, Iloilo City Police Station 6 chief, said Evangelista and his three friends were walking on the shoreline when Maluto approached them.

Without any apparent reason, Maluto, who was with a male and two female friends, allegedly punched Evangelista in the face.

A bit groggy from the blow, Evangelista quickly pulled a knife and stabbed Maluto in the lower portion of his abdomen.

When alias Negro, a minor, saw what happened to his friend Maluto, he immediately came to the latter’s defense and stabbed Evangelista on the left portion of his back.

When responding policemen arrived, all of them scampered and took different directions.

Police later learned that the two stabbed teenagers were brought by their friends to the hospital.

Evangelista was rushed to lloilo Doctors’ Hospital in Molo district while Maluto was taken to Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district.

Tañagras said they later arrested Negro in a hot pursuit operation.

Police recovered a bread knife from the crime scene.

Evangelista told police investigators that the incident could have stemmed from an incident that happened Sunday.

He allegedly threw something and hit a member of Maluto’s group.

This could have prompted Maluto to attack him.

Charges are yet to be filed against persons involved in the incident.
