UPV takes part in coastal clean-up drive for Oceans Month

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) has joined the ongoing daily beach clean-up drive at Villa Beach, Molo Arevalo district, Iloilo City as part of the 2022 World Oceans Month Celebration this May.

The cleanup team composed of UPV, 8 Villa Beach, Iloilo City Development and Tourism Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office, MORE Electric and Power Corporation, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, United States Agency for International Development, and University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography, is holding the activity until June 8, 2022.

Interested organizations and individuals may join the clean-up team on weekends starting at 7:00 am.

The said month-long clean-up builds off from the success of the series of clean-ups at the 8 Villa Beach as part of the Earth Day celebration last month.

UPV and UP Validus Amiticia led the clean-up on the opening day of the “Earth Day Shindig,” a series of events organized by 8 Villa Beach and the Iloilo City Tourism and Development, Office, along with various partners, from April 22-24 to raise awareness and take part in addressing the climate crisis.

The participants were able to collect multiple sacks of trash after an hour-long clean-up. (Carlson B. Alelis, IPO)
