Vegetable vendor killed in Negros road accident

BACOLOD CITY – A 72-year-old vegetable vendor was killed after being hit by a motorcycle at Bangga Mabini, Barangay Mabini, Valladolid, Negros Occidental, early Sunday.

Police identified the victim as Loreto Sandico of Barangay Mabini.

Police Major Eric Doronilla, Valladolid town police chief, said the victim was crossing the road when a 23-year-old motorcycle rider, allegedly speeding, hit him on his way home to Pulupandan town around 3:31 a.m.

Doronilla added that Sandico was about to board a vehicle parked on the opposite side of the road, which he used to transport and sell vegetables, when the accident occurred.

The elderly victim sustained head injuries and was declared dead at a hospital, according to Doronilla.

The motorcycle rider, who was not wearing a helmet, also sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Doronilla said.
