VICT Hits 5 Million TEUs, Expands Capacity by 30%

Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), a fully automated container handling facility operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) in Melbourne, Australia, has achieved a significant milestone by processing 5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) since it began operations in 2017. This accomplishment solidifies VICT’s position as a leading player in Australia’s logistics and shipping industry.

“Reaching five million TEUs is a testament to this unwavering commitment and a significant accomplishment for the entire VICT team. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff for their dedication and hard work,” said Bruno Porchietto, VICT chief executive officer.

VICT’s rapid growth is bolstered by substantial investments in infrastructure and technology. A recent terminal expansion increased its capacity by 30%, allowing the facility to handle 1.25 million TEUs annually. This boost in capacity has positioned VICT to manage larger vessels and meet the rising demand for efficient container handling.

The expansion was accompanied by upgrades in technology, such as the installation of new automated stacking cranes and super post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes, enhancing cargo operations and reducing vessel turnaround times.

In addition to its operational advancements, VICT emphasizes sustainability, in line with the ICTSI Group’s environmental goals. The terminal has implemented eco-friendly technologies and resource management practices aimed at reducing its environmental impact.

Since its opening at Webb Dock in 2017, VICT has continued to focus on safety, innovation, and sustainability, securing its role as a key contributor to Australia’s growing trade and logistics sectors.
