HOUSTON, Texas – It’s almost a fleeting moment but this New Year again added another year to the twilight of our life. It’s just like hardly the day has started and it’s already six o’clock in the evening. Or Monday has barely arrived and it’s now Friday. And again, the month is already over and the year is almost up and then New Year again.
Then before we realize it, in our twilight years, we are already in our 40s, 50s, 60s and like this writer in the 70s, the years that our lives passed. As we look back, we see us now transplanted to a new place, we see the loss of friends, family members, jobs, business opportunities and we realized that it’s too late to go back! But if we look back, we see the tortuous path that we have trod, the trials, the challenges and difficulties that we have overcome to be at what we are now. And so, this New Year let’s look ahead and try to take full advantage of the time left that our Creator had allotted to us for He will lead us to where we need to be and not where we want to be.
We are no longer at the age where we can postpone until tomorrow what needs to be done right away. Let’s put color to the grayness of our life, smile at the little things in life that puts balm in our hearts. Let’s continue to enjoy serenely the time that remains. Let’s not lose hope but be reminded that God’s plans are better than our dreams. Let’s stop dreaming about better things but rather let’s go to make things better. Let’s be thankful to God for what we have. Let’s be thankful for our jobs and livelihood, the roof over our head, for family and friends, for being alive with possibilities and above all for having God in our lives. Little is much when God is in it. If God is with us, who can be against us?
We hope that the bells that will ring the birth of the new year, will ring a new hope, new opportunities, new joys. That it will bring an era of new challenges, new beginnings and prosperity, no matter how dark the past may have been, or how sobering is the present hour. There is always a new hope, a new way of life for those who will, in faith, seek out the guidance of the Divine Providence this coming year. Be not dismayed, there are lots of blessings left after this year and the best is yet to come for those who keep their faith. God always provides, it just might look different than what you have in mind.
In closing, I quote from the beautiful song entitled “I KNOW WHO HOLDS TOMORROW”:
I DON’T KNOW WHAT HOLDS TOMORROW. I JUST LIVE FROM DAY TO DAY.
I DON’T BORROW FROM THE SUNSHINE, FOR ITS SKIES MIGHT TURN TO GRAY.
I DON’T WORRY OVER THE FUTURE, FOR I KNOW WHAT THE LORD HAVE SAID.
AND TODAY I’LL WALK BESIDE HIM, FOR HE KNOWS WHAT LIES AHEAD.
MANY THINGS ABOUT TOMORROW, I DON’T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND. BUT I
KNOW WHO HOLDS TOMORROW AND I KNOW WHO HOLDS MY HAND.
A Happy and Prosperous New Year to all Daily Guardian readers!
