BACOLOD City – An elderly man is facing charges for violation of Section 5(a) of Republic Act 9262 or the “Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004,” after he hammered his live-in partner due to jealousy at their residence in Barangay Punao, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.

Arrested was Roberto Gracia, 78, of the said village.

Police Captain Ruby Aurita, public information officer of San Carlos City Police Station, said the 45-year-old victim went to the suspect’s house to get her things after she decided to leave the latter.

Aurita said the suspect asked for another chance, but the victim refused, which irked him.

The suspect then allegedly hammered the victim in the head when the latter insisted on leaving him for good, she added.

The victim was able to call for help from their neighbors and they were pacified.

Aurita said the couple has been living together for about 10 years but they would usually argue.

It was the first time that the suspect hit the victim despite their series of arguments in the past, she added.

The victim claimed that she is not entertaining anyone but the suspect would often get jealous. She is now stable at a hospital, according to Aurita.
