A 61-year-old woman was killed in road mishap in Anilao, Iloilo afternoon of Oct. 26, 2019.

Police identified the victim as Helen Parcon, a resident of Barangay Balabag, Anilao. She got pinned by the side railing of the truck after it flipped on its side.

Reports indicated that around 28 others passengers were injured.

Five of them were rushed to Ramon Duremdes Memorial District Hospital in Dumangas town while the 23 passengers were brought to Don Jose S. Monfort District Hospital in Barotac Nuevo.

The victims, all residents of Balabag village, went to a funeral in Barangay Mostro.

They were on their way home around 1:00 p.m. when driver Jonald Calvo claimed he lost control of the vehicle.

Calvo, 42, of Barangay Sto. Rosario, Anilao, said the brake did not work while they were passing through Balunos village.

After navigating an uphill portion of the road, the driver said the vehicle’s brake stopped working while they were on a downhill.

The vehicle quickly descended before it flipped on its side.

It remains unclear if Parcon’s family will sue Calvo.
