A total of 10 players faced multiple fines sanctioned by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) after a thorough investigation was conducted regarding more ‘ligang labas’ stints.
The PBA, through commissioner Willie Marcial, revealed and announced their list last May 3, 2023, just months heading into their upcoming conference.
Extra rice duo of Beau Belga and JR Quiñahan, who became the first players to be slapped with sanctions by the PBA, totaled their fine to 70,000 pesos each.
Aside from their 50,000-peso fine due to their ligang labas appearance in Cebu last two weeks, the PBA added 20,000 pesos due to their participation in a brawl.
Jio Jalalon of the Magnolia Hotshots was also fined 100,000 pesos due to accumulating his second ligang labas violation which dated back to February 22, 2020.
Since this is already his second time violating the Uniform Player’s Contract (UPC), the PBA has decided to double his fine.
Rey Nambatac, the current superstar point guard of the Rain or Shine Elastopainters, was also caught playing outside the league and is ready to pay a 50,000-peso fine.
Completing the list of players that will be paying their fines are Jhonard Clarito, Arwind Santos, Barkley Eboña, Alec Stockton, Allyn Bulanadi, and Vic Manuel.
The PBA office also announced that they already notified these players with the number of their fines and met with them during a closed-room meeting.
As of now, the PBA is still not yet done in conducting their investigation into all of the players that are possibly of involvement in more ligang labas games.
