11 nabbed for illegal gambling

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Seven women and four males were arrested by police in separate anti-gambling operations Sunday afternoon at Sitio Luyo, Barangay Culasi here and Pilar, Capiz.

The Provincial Anti-Criminality Team (PROACT) of the Capiz Police Provincial Office and the Roxas City Police Station first collared Rosalie Rubio, 48; Marlyn Moleño, 60; Elvira Candelario, 52; Ailyn Erandio, 41; Viviana Dequito, Ma. Riza Escoban and Michelle Rosel, all residents of said place.

Recovered from the seven suspects were P1,452 cash bets for Mahjong, P320 for tong-its, a cellphone, and playing cards.

According to Rosalie Rubio, they were merely playing mahjong just for diversion every Sunday only.

The seven were detained at the Roxas City police station while charges for violations of Presidential Decree No, 1602 or illegal gambling law are expected to be filed against them.

Meanwhile, four persons were arrested for illegal cockfighting Sunday afternoon at Barangay Sta. Fe, Pilar, Capiz.

The police identified the suspects as Romeo Catalan, 49; Joel Vergara, 40; William John Cordova, 30, all residents of Barangay San Nicolas and Joemar Villar, 46 and resident of Barangay Casanayan in the said town.

According to PCpl Jaypee Tomogda, Pilar Municipal Police Station investigator, the suspects were caught in the act conducting illegal cockfighting.

Recovered from the suspects were three cocks and other paraphernalia used in the cockfighting.

The four will be charged for violations of PD 1602.
