BACOLOD City – 1,220 residents of Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental can now have access to safe and potable water supply thanks to a solar-powered water system in the village.
The provincial government allocated PHP8-million for the project which was completed within five months and can benefit about 300 households in four puroks.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson turned over the said project to the city government led by Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr., and the barangay officials led by Captain Gerardo Gonzaga last Wednesday.
Gonzaga said he is thankful for the said project since insufficiency of water supply is one of the major problems of the residents in the village.
Gonzaga said that the barangay health center, barangay hall, two daycare centers, and an elementary school will also benefit from the project.
Meanwhile, Lacson, in his message, said that the challenge of maintaining the water system lies on the management of the local officials and the cooperation of the community.
He also said that he hopes everybody will cooperate to make the project sustainable.
For his part, Zayco said that he is grateful for the cooperation and unity of the different stakeholders for the realization of the project.
