More than 1,000 Guimarasnons availed free registration of their legal documents during the conduct of mobile registration from January until February 2021 in various barangays by the five Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) in partnership with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office.
“All the 1,257 recipients acquired their certificates of live birth for free while some of them requested for their certificates of marriage and even certificate of death of their family members,” Provincial Statistics Officer, Nelida B. Losare said.
“Most of the late live birth registrants were senior citizens due to their need of a birth certificate for the PhilSys step 2 registration, while some of them requested corrections for the erroneous entries of their civil registry documents,” Losare added.
Losare said a series of mobile registrations were planned for the whole province of Guimaras since the year 2021 started.
“The mobile registration conducted in February is one of the activities prepared for the month-long celebration of the 31st Civil Registration Month where the LCROs with the support of their Local Chief Executives (LCEs), offered it for free to all Guimarasnons,” Losare said.
The highest number of recipients during mobile registration were from the Municipality of Jordan, with 411 individuals, followed by Sibunag with 367 persons, Nueva Valencia with 246 beneficiaries, and Buenavista with 233 persons.
“The LCROs, PSA, and the local Officials of Guimaras province will not stop on their campaign until the goal of having zero unregistered vital events in the province will be achieved, though the 31st CRM celebration in the province concluded on February 26, 2021 the activities for the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) decade continue until 2024,” Losare said.
Losare also encouraged residents of Guimaras to take advantage of the chance given by their local officials to process and be registered for free.
“We need the cooperation and unity of every Local Government Unit (LGU) in Guimaras to raise awareness of Guimarasnons on the importance of having a registered birth certificate and other legal civil registry documents, Losare said.
