A 13-year-old boy died of suspected drowning on the afternoon of December 18 in San Remigio, Antique.
The victim, identified as Gerry, a Grade 9 student of Barangbang National High School, went swimming with friends at the Nasuli NIA Dam near the Nasuli-Vilvar Bridge in Barangay Nasuli, San Remigio.
Gerry was temporarily residing in Barangay Barangbang, San Remigio, but was originally from Barangay Carmelo 2 in the same town.
One of his friends, Marlon, reported the incident to the San Remigio Municipal Police Station at around 7 p.m., three hours after Gerry was believed to have gone missing.
While swimming, the group noticed that Gerry was no longer visible and sought the help of the dam’s caretaker to search for him.
At around 8:44 p.m., the village chief of Barangay Nasuli informed the police that Gerry’s body had been found 500 meters from where he was last seen.
He was immediately brought to Ramon Maza Sr. District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
