Despite the difficulties, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office No. 6 is finding ways in facilitating jobs amidst this pandemic.
The Regional Office opened an online platform to bring the labor market closer to every jobseeker’s home during the 2021 Kalayaan Online Job Fair. And true enough, DOLE produced 136 HOTS (hired on the spot) and 90 near hire applicants.
“We are happy with the results of the Kalayaan Job Fair,” said DOLE RO No. 6 Regional Director Cyril L. Ticao.
“We campaigned hard to create this opportunities considering the impact of the pandemic to the labor sector and the need of the jobseekers to find a job.”
The newly-hired employees are now preparing for their employment with different government agencies, fast food chain and online service providers. Others are on their way to BPOs, health care service providers, medical and pharmaceutical companies.
Applicants were also referred to DTI and TESDA for business opportunity and skills training respectively.
RD Ticao recognizes the different partners for the success of the activity, “The Regional Office appreciates the participation of the different agencies and companies in offering vacancies to the jobseekers.”
He is moved by the concerted efforts of the stakeholders in keeping the labor sector afloat, “We acknowledge the different Public Service Employment Offices (PESO) and the LGUs in assisting the applicants in their localities as well as the members of media and the different stakeholders in the massive information dissemination of this activity.”
In partnership with Mynimo, the Online Job Fair has generated 5,169 home-based applicants and 4, 478 vacancies offered by 35 private companies and government agencies.
The Job Fair is one of the highlights under the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) program which aims to promote decent employment through entrepreneurship.
However, due to the restrictions of mass gathering, activities on livelihood and entrepreneurship was conducted online. The worth-watching Regional Office’s best livelihood project and the livelihood skills demonstration by TESDA were presented through the social media.
The netizens were also provided with informative topics on livelihood, business and labor related issues such as the Celebration for the World Day Against Child Labor which was discussed by DSWD Regional Coordinator Raji J. Alvarado.
For the business component, DTI Sr. Trade and Industry Dev’t. Specialist Mutya D. Eusores, enlightened netizens on the basics of online selling in her talk, Starting an Online Business!
Through the “From Nothing to Something” presentation, Ideal Visa Consultancy CEO Charity Delmo shared the success story of her business.
The technological advances and its impact to the labor force was also featured in the 2021 Kalayaan TNK.
Iloilo Federation for Information Technology (IFIT) Chair Jessraf Palmares imparted his ideas on the State of the IT-BPM Industry in Iloilo – Human Capital Challenge while RDC- Economic Development Committee member Francis Gentoral expounded on The Future of Work and the Workforce of the Future.
Two speakers from DOLE Central Office were also invited to give depth to relative topics.
Institute of Labor Studies Dir. Ahmma Charisma L. Satumba explained the Fourth Industrial Revolution and its influence to the work force while Ms. Paulie Ong of the Bureau of Working Condition provided the netizens with gainful insights in Telecommuting Act and Flexible Working Arrangement.
