16 Guimarasnons were born daily in 2020

Guimaras’ registered births slightly increased by 0.70 percent in 2020 – from 4,126 births in 2019 to 4,155 registrants in 2020.

The data means that 16 Guimarasnons were born in the island province daily in 2020, based on the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras.

Also, 52.56 percent, or 2,184 of the registered births were female while the remaining 47.44 percent, or 1,971, were males, with a gender gap of 5.13 percent (sex ratio of 90 males to every 100 females.

In 2019, the highest registered live births were noted in the months of September (430), July (407), October (406), and November (394).

But in 2020, January recorded the highest registered live births at 666, more than two folds of the 267 births in 2019. The months of March (433), April (424), and December (401) also posted high live birth registrations.

Across municipalities, the highest registered live births by usual residence of mother was in Jordan with 58.77 percent or 2,425 live births or an average of 9 registrants per day

Buenavista posted 884 live births or 21.43 percent, and Nueva Valencia with 674 registered live births or 16.34 percent.

San Lorenzo and Sibunag contributed the least at 2.40 percent and 1.07 percent, respectively

In 2020, Jordan still contributed the largest share to the provincial total with 62.43 percent or 2,594 registered births (higher by 6.97 percent over its 2019 level), translating to an average of 10 registrants per day.

Next to Jordan is the municipality of Nueva Valencia with 1,000 live births (24.07 percent), Buenavista with 503 live births (12.11 percent), San Lorenzo with 40 registered live births (0.96 percent), and Sibunag with 18 live births (0.43 percent).

Of the five municipalities, only two recorded an uptrend – Nueva Valencia had a remarkable growth of 48.37 percent followed by Jordan (6.97 percent).

The three other municipalities marked decreases in live births – Buenavista (43.10 percent), San Lorenzo (59.60 percent) and Sibunag (59.09 percent).
