BACOLOD CITY – A fire broke out in a residential area on FY Manalo Street, Barangay 17, on the night of Valentine’s Day, damaging 16 houses.
Fire Supt. Jenny Mae Masip, city fire marshal, said nine houses were totally destroyed, while seven others were partially damaged.
The fire started at around 8:18 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, in the boarding house of Barangay Kagawad Rey Mirador. It originated from one of the five rooms on the second floor.
Masip said authorities are investigating electrical ignition as the possible cause. Firefighters declared the fire out at 8:56 p.m.
The blaze caused an estimated PHP281,750 in damage. No injuries were reported.
The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) has provided basic necessities to affected residents while awaiting the release of financial assistance.
Fire victims with totally damaged houses will receive PHP15,000, while those with partially damaged homes will get PHP10,000. Renters will receive PHP5,000 to PHP7,000 based on assessment.
