ILOILO CITY’S conduct of International Coastal Cleanup Day and Jaro River Cleanup drive collected a total of 16,466 kilos of garbage from shores and riverbank over the weekend.
The initiative gathered 5,500 stakeholders including barangays, academe, national government agencies (NGAs), and non-government organizations (NGOs) as massive multi-sectoral support resulted to successful environmental endeavor.
The cleanup activities collected 11,866 kilograms of garbage as it covered coastlines from Sto. Niño Sur in Arevalo district to Bito-on in Jaro.
The river cleanup collected 4,600 kilograms of garbage as it covered 24 barangays in La Paz and 14 barangays in Jaro.
City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and General Services Office (GSO) supervised the cleanup operations supported by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-6. (PIO)
