BACOLOD City – Seventeen persons were arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal cockfighting here last Sunday.
12 individuals were caught in Barangay Taculing, while 5 others were arrested in Barangay Tangub.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Sherlock Gabana, public information officer of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said police responded to reports from concerned citizens regarding the alleged illegal gambling activity.
Police recovered from Taculing three dead fighting cocks, two gaffs, and P2,150 bet money.
Confiscated from Tangub were two fighting cocks, paraphernalia, and P1,680 bet money.
Aside from considering it as illegal gambling, Gabana said that mass gathering is also prohibited amid the pandemic to prevent the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID)-19.
