THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) hosted the 5-day ASEAN Bamboo Congress for Climate Change Adaptation towards Environmental Sustainability and Economic Resiliency from August 13-16, 2019 at Iloilo Convention Center, Megaworld Blvd., Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

More than 200 participants, mostly research and development practitioners from other ASEAN countries, have gathered to tackle the promising potentials of bamboo in mitigating the effects of climate change.

The activity was led by DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu together with DENR-ERDB Director Sofio B. Quintana, DENR-ERDB Overall Congress CoordinatorMr. Angelito B. Exconde, DENR 6 Regional Executive Director Francisco E. Milla, Jr., Global Programme Director ofInternational Network on Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR)Mr. Brian Cohem, and Mr. Michael Abadie, France Ambassador of World Bamboo Organization.

It was also graced by DENR Assistant Secretary for Field Operations Marcial C. Amaro, DENR Assistant Secretary for Western Mindanao Jim O. Sampulna, ARD Livino B. Duran of Technical Services, ARD Jesse L. Vego of Management Services, Maasin Mayor Hon. Francis A. Amboy, OIC Provincial ENR Officer Arturo C. Cangrejo, and City ENR Officer Noel Hechanova.
