KAYA FC–Iloilo are back in action at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, four days after registering their third straight victory in the 2019 Philippines Football League.
Kaya will be looking to keep their perfect start alive against PFL newcomers Mendiola FC 1991 at 4 p.m.
A club that traces its roots from San Beda’s rich football history, Mendiola are in the process of finding their feet in the highest level of Philippine football.
They registered their first point in a draw against Philippine Air Force, but are entering Wednesday’s encounter fresh from a 6-1 demolition at the hands of Stallion Laguna over the weekend.
“From a short turnaround of games, i’ts expected that we will be resting some of the players, but still we will be having a balanced and competitive line up against Mendiola,” said Iloilo head coach Noel Marcaida.
“The main problem in the last match against Global was the finishing, so we put emphasis on that going into this game.”
Despite a staggering number of chances and a dominant display of control in their last outing, Kaya managed to score only a single goal through Alfred Osei. While it was enough to give the club the win, Marcaida is hoping to see a marked improvement on Wednesday.
“Winning a game is not all about how many chances you create in front of the goal, or how long the team keeps possession. It’s about who scores more at the end of the game. The conversion of our chances is what I’m looking for,” he said. “I hope my players learned from what happened in the previous match and improve to be more clinical in front of the goal.”
The 4 p.m. match between Kaya FC–Iloilo and Mendiola FC 1991 will be the curtain raiser at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, with Stallion and Green Archers United facing off at 7 p.m. Both games can be streamed live at PFLTV.ph.
