The province of Antique will allot P9 million budget for more than 730 student-athletes and coaching officials who will compete in the 2019 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet, which kicks off in Roxas City, Capiz on Feb. 17-23.
According Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao, they cut the monetary support from P13 million to P9 million due to budget constraints.
“The provincial government is giving its all-out support to the athletes who will leave for Roxas City on February 10.
I will try my very best to be in Roxas City to inspire the athletes during the opening program, Cadiao said in a separate media interview.
Cadiao also said the provincial government is now expediting the purchase order requests for the needs of the athletes.
Meanwhile, Department of Education-Antique Division School Governance and Operations Division Chief Evelyn Remo said their athletes will compete in various sports events, including three new regular sports.
Antique will participate in the different sports events in the WVRAA. These include new demo sports such as pencak silat, dance sports and aero gymnastics which will be played as regular sports in the WVRAA beginning this year,” she added.
The three demonstration sports are also expected to be included as regular sports in the 2019 edition of the Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.
Around 10,000 student-athletes from Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Antique, Capiz, and Aklan will see action in the annual regional sporting events hosted by the province of Capiz.
