2020 Regional S&T Week goes virtual

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI will conduct its first ever virtual event for this year’s 2020 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) via online platforms on December 2-3.  This regional celebration is still part of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) which we held just last week from November 23 to 27.

Despite the current pandemic situation, DOST is still pushing all its efforts to bring science, technology and innovation closer to the people.  This year’s theme will be “Agham at Teknolohiya: Sandigan ng Kalusugan, Kabuhayan, Kaayusan at Kinabukasan”.  celebration this year is guided by the theme “Agham at Teknolohiya: Sandigan ng Kalusugan, Kabuhayan, Kaayusan, at Kinabukasan.”

This year’s theme conveys how science-based approaches can mitigate the impacts of CoViD-19 in the areas of kalusugan or health, kabuhayan or economic activity and livelihood, kaayusan or order and governance and finally kinabukasan or the future.  The 2020 RSTW virtual exposition will highlight not only the significant contributions of science and technology to national development but also the DOST CoViD-19 projects and solutions.  Likewise, the event will showcase online interactive exhibits, virtual facility walkthrough of DOST-assisted innovation centers and facilities, webinars and/or fora and online activities for students and teachers.

Moreover, there will launching some projects such as the DOST E-Nutribun or enhanced nutribun, the iSkolar, which is a web-based portal intended to service the requirements of our scholars as well as the Bakal Lokal which is both a physical and digital platform to assist the marketing needs of our local businesses particularly our micro-enterprises.  Also, there will be the awarding of the Best SETUP Project and Best CEST Community of DOST VI for 2020.  These awards will give recognition to the outstanding accomplishments of our MSMEs as well as other partner organizations in science and technology.

The RSTW is conducted annually in the region to give recognition to the accomplishments and outstanding personalities in science and technology.  However, due to the pandemic DOST is conducting the 2020 S&T week celebration virtually to ensure public safety.
