2023 highlights of events in education (Conclusion)

Twenty-five thousand seven hundred sixteen (25,716) out of 32,203 examinees nationwide, or 80%, passed in the Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination (PNLE) given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Nursing in November 2023.

This is higher than the June 2023 PNLE passing percentage of 75.02%. West Visayas State University ranked number 1 in the national level with 100% passing average while Saint Paul University-Iloilo ranked number 5 with 99.12% passing average.

Other top performing nursing schools in Western Visayas with 50 or more examinees and at least 85% passing are Central Philippine University (CPU), University of St. La Salle (USLS), University of San Agustin (USA), Aklan State University (ASU), St. Anthony’s College – Antique (SAC-Antique), Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod (CSA-Bacolod), Riverside College (RC), and Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST).

Four (4) successful examinees of West Visayas State University garnered the 10 highest places in the national level. The Western Visayas Region produced 2,154 passers or 89.6% passing percentage. This is higher than June 2023 passing percentage of 85.25%.

On the other hand, the PRC released the results of September 2023 Licensure Examinations for Professional Teachers (LEPT) given in Bangkok, Thailand and in 40 testing centers all over the Philippines. Twenty-three thousand seven hundred eighty-two (23,782) out of 50,593 or 47.01% passed in the LEPT – Elementary.

High performing HEIs in the Region with 50 and above examinees and at least 80% passing percentage, are Bacolod City College (BCC), University of Iloilo (UI) and Philippine Normal University – Visayas (PNU – Visayas). One thousand one hundred eighty-five (1,185) examinees in the Region, or 66.8%, passed in the said examination.

Schools in Western Visayas with board passers included in the list of successful examinees who garnered the 10 highest places in the national level are West Visayas State University – Himamaylan Campus (WVSU-Himamaylan), West Visayas State University – Main  (WVSU-Main), Carlos Hilado Memorial State University – Main (CHMSU-Main), Iloilo State University of Fisheries, Science and Technology – Dumangas Campus (ISUFST-Dumangas), University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos (UNO-R) and Central Philippines State University – San Carlos Campus (CPSU-San Carlos).

Fifty-three thousand nine hundred ninety-five (53,995) out of 95,961 or 56.27% passed in the LEPT – Secondary. University of Saint La Salle ranked number 7 and PNU-Visayas ranked number 9 in the national level for schools with 50 or more examinees and with at least 85% passing percentage.

High performing schools in the Region, with 50 and above examinees and at least 80% passing percentage are University of Saint La Salle, PNU- Visayas, Bacolod City College, West Visayas State University-Himamaylan Campus, University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos, University of Iloilo, West Visayas State University – Main Campus, and Carlos Hilado Memorial State University. Schools in Western Visayas with board passers included in the list of successful examinees who garnered the 10 highest places in the national level are West Visayas State University – Main and Bago City College.

Five hundred ninety-four (594) out of 1,148 examinees nationwide, or 51.79%, passed in the Chemist Licensure Examination given by the PRC Board of Chemistry in December 2023. Sixty-five (65) examinees in the Region, or 63.73%, passed in the said examination.

Finally, results of the PRC board examinations in 2023 showed that majority of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Western Visayas   maintained their passing performance in various licensure examinations despite of COVID 19 Pandemic that occurred in the last 4 years (2020-2023) when students pursued their studies Online, Modular or in Hybrid mode of teaching.
