The 2025 local elections here will mark a highly anticipated rematch between Benitez and former Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia.
After Benitez defeated Leonardia in the 2022 mayoral race, this upcoming election sets the stage for a dramatic comeback battle.

Benitez, who is on his first term as mayor of Bacolod swapped posts with Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya, who is on his last term.
