The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the three higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Province of Antique recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the creation of Job Placement Office (JPO) in their respective campuses.
The Agreement was signed by DOLE-6 Regional Director Cyril L. Ticao, St. Anthony’s College (SAC) President Fr. Edione R. Febrero, University of Antique (UA) President Pablo S. Crespo, Jr., and Advance Central College (ACC) Board of Trustees Chair Rani E. Rodriguez during the 4th Quarter Meeting and Year-End Performance Assessment (YEPA) of PESO Antique.
What started as a school-based Public Employment Service Office (PESO), UA, SAC and ACC created the JPO to broaden its services for job facilitation and to enhance its features as stipulated in the amended PESO Act.
“It is good to note that the higher education institutions recognized the need for far-reaching employment services to its clients. Aside from bringing the job opportunity closer to the students and graduates, the JPO will also be beneficial for the development of the academic programs offered by these institutions,” said DOLE-RO No. VI Regional Director Cyril L. Ticao.
JPO is a non-fee charging unit within an educational institution that provides employment services and coordinates its activities with the LGU PESO.
Mr. Rani E. Rodriguez, ACC Board of Trustees Chair, is thankful for the gains from the JPO. “It is not just for employment but also for the guidance of the students to take programs fitted to their skills and for the education of the parents to guide their children of the programs they have to take.”
“The JPO also assists us in job placement, establishes links through on line job fairs and upgrades the skills of our students and graduates,” he added.
Rodriguez also emphasized that the JPO provides data that help the institutions in designing educational programs that will fit the demand of the job market.
