BACOLOD City – 210 troopers from the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) and policemen in various assignments in Negros island received recognition for demonstrating commendable exemplary actions during combat and law enforcement operations against the New People’s Army (NPA) in central Negros.
Colonel Michael Samson, deputy commander of 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde) led the pinning of Military Commendation Medals, assisted by Lieutenant Colonel Melvin Flores, 62nd IB commander during the awarding rites held at MCP 62nd IB in Barangay Libas, Isabela town last Saturday.
The 303rd IBde honored the bravery and accomplishment of the law enforcers after engaging in an encounter with NPAs in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on September 17 that led to the recovery of cache of firearms and ammunition, and the arrest of two high-ranking NPA leaders and their seven staff members in the said city on September 20.
In a statement, Samson said the Army recognized their commitment to the service, hard work and bravery in fighting the NPAs.
“The medal symbolizes your bravery in facing our enemy and selfless dedication on your oath to protect the people and the country,” he added.
Samson vowed that law enforcers will continue their efforts in going after the NPAs.
The activity was also graced by Isabela Mayor Irene Montilla, and Guihulngan City Mayor Carlo Jorge Joan Reyes.
