A total of 2,139 Western Visayas cops hope to be promoted to the next higher rank during the second cycle of promotion for calendar year 2020.
But not everyone’s wishes might be fulfilled.
The Police Regional Office 6 said it is processing the folders of the 2,139 applicants but only 1,472, or 68 percent, of them will get their promotion.
The number is based on the PRO-6 approved quota.
Eighty-eight personnel are applying for the ranks of Police Lieutenant up to Police Major while 2,051 are applying for the ranks of Police Corporal up to the rank of Police Executive Master Sergeant.
All applicants have met the minimum qualification standard per rank and will undergo other phases of the processing such as the interview of the Promotion Board; the mandatory neuro-psychiatric examination conducted by the Regional Health Service 6; and the mandatory drug test, which will be conducted by the Regional Crime Laboratory Office 6.
After passing all the stages of promotion, the applicants will be ranked according to seniority or their time in grade on the present rank, individual performance, awards received, and the rating they got during the interview.
The promotion board ensures that the ‘promotees’ are not just qualified but also deserving to get the next higher rank.
The effectivity date of the promotion for this cycle is Dec. 16, 2020.
For the PNP, promotion is one of the ways of to lift the morale of the personnel.
It is also a way to gauge the individual accomplishment or performance of the applicant.
