253 new COVID-19 cases in WV

Confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Western Visayas is nearing the 7,000-case mark as 253 new cases were reported by the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD) on Sept. 10, 2020.

The region has logged 6,884 cases since the pandemic broke out in March 2020. But active cases as of Thursday is at 3,194, according to the DOH-WV CHD.

New local cases totaled 238, taking up 94 percent of the latest batch.

As expected, Bacolod City and Negros Occidental accounted for 63 percent of the new cases.

Bacolod City had the most number of new local cases with 104, followed by Negros Occidental province with 47, Iloilo City with 43, Iloilo province with 23, Capiz with 20, and Aklan with 1.

New cases of Locally Stranded Individuals (LSI) numbered to 11, with Negros Occidental having 6 cases, Iloilo province and Bacolod City with 2 cases each, and Antique with 1 case.

There were 2 new cases of Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF), both from Iloilo City, a 37-year-old male from Molo district (WV Patient No. 6819), and a 52-year-old from Arevalo district (WV Patient No. 69).

The remaining 2 new cases were Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (APOR); a 31-year-old male from Malay, Aklan (WV Patient No. 6649) and a 36-year-old male from Buenavista, Guimaras (WV Patient No. 6863).

Based on symptoms, 178 new cases are asymptomatic, 52 new cases have Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), 21 new cases have Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI), and 2 new cases are still to be verified.

The DOH-WV CHD also reported 65 new recoveries on Sept. 10, bringing the region’s total COVID-19 recovery tally to 3,589.

Bacolod City also reported the most number of new recoveries with 26, followed by Iloilo province with 18 new recoveries, Iloilo City with 11, Guimaras and Negros Occidental provinces with 3 each, Capiz province with 2, and Aklan and Antique provinces with 1 new recovery each.

Six new deaths were reported by the DOH-WV CHD on Sept. 10:

– a 42-year-old male from Sagay City, Negros Occidental, who died on Sep. 9 (WV Patient No. 4592);

– a 67-year-old male from Pontevedra, Capiz, who died on Aug. 30 (WV Patient No. 5387);

– a 74-year-old male from Pontevedra, Negros Occidental who died on Aug 31 (WV Patient No. 5436);

– a 61-year-old female from Silay City, Negros Occidental who died on Sept. 4 (WV Patient No. 6143);

– a 38-year-old male from Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, who died on Sept. 4 (WV Patient No. 6557); and

– a 65-year-old female from Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, who died on Sept. 4 (WV Patient No. 6558).

The total number of COVID-19 deaths in the region as of Sept. 10 is 101.
