BACOLOD CITY – A total of 260 families from Barangays Atipuluan and Sampinit in Bago City, who were affected by the September floods, received food packs, medicines, vitamins, hygiene supplies, and other essentials through the CHMSUyanihan initiative of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University on October 3, 2024.

Among the beneficiaries were 220 families from Barangay Sampinit and 40 families from Barangay Atipuluan.

These goods were distributed thanks to donations collected during the nine-day CHMSUyanihan para sa Negros donation drive, which took place from September 19-28, 2024.

The volunteer students and staff were joined by members of the Talisay Youth Organization to help with the distribution.

Last month, CHMSU organized the donation drive to support flood-hit communities in southern Negros. The initiative was led by the university’s Center for Internationalization and External Relations and the University Student Governments from the Alijis, Binalbagan, Fortune Towne, and Talisay campuses, with assistance from volunteers from the Events Management Team.

The campaign raised PHP41,292.70 in cash donations and received in-kind contributions from students, faculty, staff, and partners across all four campuses.

In addition, notable donations were provided by Atty. Rowena Lopez-Lizares and the Angel’s Wings Foundation, Talisay City Councilor Gabriel Villacin and the Gabbarkada organization, as well as the non-profit Chrysalis Foundation.

A total of PHP35,201.70 from the cash donations collected in the Alijis, Fortune Towne, and Talisay campuses was used to fund the operations in Bago City, which included the purchase of 10 sacks of rice and other groceries.

Meanwhile, cash and in-kind donations from the Binalbagan campus will be distributed to a nearby community.
