Around 2,682 applicants are competing for 360 slots under the Philippine National Police (PNP) attrition quota for Western Visayas.

The new recruits will fill vacancies left by personnel who have retired, been dismissed, passed away, or been dropped from the rolls.

Brigadier General Jack Wanky, Western Visayas police chief, said 20 percent of those to be hired will be women.

The Malay Municipal Police Station in Boracay Island, Aklan, will receive the largest allocation with 127 recruits, or 35 percent of the total quota.

Several police stations under the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) will also receive a significant number of recruits.

Bago City Police Station will get 35 officers, while Kabankalan City Police Station will receive 34. San Carlos City Police Station is set to have 27, Sagay City Police Station will get 25, and Himamaylan City and Sipalay City Police Stations will each have 21. Cadiz City Police Station will receive 20 officers.

In Iloilo province, Oton Municipal Police Station will get 13 officers. Silay City Police Station in Negros Occidental will receive 10, while Escalante City Police Station will get eight. Hinigaran Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental will receive five officers.

Iloilo City Police Station 10 and Cauayan Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental will each receive three officers. Iloilo City Police Station 9 and Bacolod City Police Station 5 will each get two officers, while Carles Municipal Police Station, Leon Municipal Police Station, Bacolod City Police Station 10, and Iloilo City Police Station 8 will each receive one officer.

Malay Municipal Police Station received the most applicants, with 479 vying for its 127 slots.

Surprisingly, Carles, with only one available position, had 305 applicants, while Oton, with 13 available slots, attracted 451 applicants.

Meanwhile, Wanky warned applicants about individuals attempting to exploit the recruitment process. “They were briefed on the modus operandi of so-called ‘fixers’ and were advised to report any suspicious individuals to the PNP,” he said.

Wanky added that strict sanctions will be imposed on anyone caught acting as a fixer, especially if they are active PNP members.
