3 Arrested for Illegal Firearms in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Three individuals were arrested in separate police operations Saturday, March 15, for illegal gun possession in Ivisan, Dumalag, and Sigma, Capiz.

Dumalag police identified one of the suspects as alias “Dodong,” 72, a resident of Barangay Santo Rosario, Dumalag.

A search warrant issued by Judge Rommel L. Leonor of Regional Trial Court Branch 21 in Mambusao, Capiz, on March 12, 2025, led to his arrest.

Charges for violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban under Comelec Resolution No. 11067 will be filed against him.

Recovered from the suspect were a homemade 12-gauge long-barrel shotgun with nine live rounds and a .38 caliber Armscor revolver with 14 live rounds.

He is now in the custody of the Dumalag Municipal Police Station.

Meanwhile, Sigma police arrested a businessman for illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm Saturday morning, March 15, in Sitio Anaba, Barangay Matangcong, Sigma, Capiz.

The suspect, identified as alias “John Mar,” 48, was caught in possession of unlicensed firearms in violation of Section 28 of RA 10591.

PCpt. Mark Anthony Garcia, officer in charge of the Sigma Municipal Police Station, said an informant reported that the suspect frequently fired his gun indiscriminately when intoxicated.

Recovered from “John Mar” were a homemade 12-gauge long-barrel shotgun without a serial number, six live rounds of the same caliber, a .38 caliber revolver without a serial number, and five live rounds.

He is now in the custody of the Sigma Municipal Police Station.

In another operation, a 59-year-old laborer was arrested in Barangay Poblacion Sur, Ivisan, Capiz, for illegal gun possession.

Arnel Valbares was apprehended after handing over a .45 caliber revolver in exchange for PHP16,500 in a buy-bust operation.

He is currently detained at the Ivisan Municipal Police Station and will face charges for violating RA 10591 and the Comelec gun ban.
