BACOLOD CITY – Thirty distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from various barangays in E.B. Magalona recently underwent a psychosocial consultation and counseling workshop at the Municipal Building.

The workshop was led by Dr. Arjay Alvarado, psychologist and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Carlos Hilado Memorial State University-Talisay Campus.

In a separate initiative, the same group received financial assistance from the Provincial Government, with counterpart funding from the Municipal Government.

The Municipal Public Employment Service Office (PESO), led by manager-designate Maricris Chavez, facilitated both activities in partnership with the Provincial PESO under Karen Dinsay and provincial coordinator Ana Lim.

Chavez said the Municipal Government, headed by Mayor Marvin Malacon, recognizes the significant contributions of Saraviahanon OFWs to the economic development of E.B. Magalona and prioritizes their well-being through counseling and other training programs.

Distressed OFWs include those who faced challenges such as exploitation, financial hardships, discrimination, or mental and physical health issues while working abroad.

The counseling sessions aim to improve their mental and emotional well-being and support their social reintegration into the community.
