31 barangays in Iloilo City have reported zero Covid-19 cases since the month of January, according to Iloilo City Covid-19 Emergency Operations Center as of April 19, 2021
The COVID-free barangays include Aguinaldo, La Paz; Arsenal Aduana; Cochero, Molo; Danao; Democracia, Jaro; Divinagracia La Paz; East Baluarte, Molo; East Timawa, Molo; El 98; Fajardo, Jaro; Flores, City Proper; Gloria, City Proper; Hinactacan; Kahirupan; and Kauswagan;
Lapuz Norte; Luna Jaro; Nonoy; Osmena; Pres. Roxas; Punong Lapuz; Rizal Estanuela; Rizal La Paz; Roxas Village; San Jose, City Proper; Seminario; South Baluarte; Tanza Babay; Tap-oc, Molo; West Habog-habog; and Yulo, Arroyo.
The city also noted a significant drop in COVID-19 cases despite the surge in cases in other areas in the region such as Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.
From April 1 to 20, Iloilo City logged 206 cases, which is 37.65 percent lower compared to March 1-20 with 332 cases.
As to the daily spike in cases, the city’s average rate dropped by 41.18 percent in April, with 10 cases per day compared to the same period in March with 17 cases per day.
The drop continued in April 15-20 with the decrease in cases ranging from 52 up to 92 percent per day.
Meanwhile, of the 278 additional cases recorded in the region on Wednesday, only 18 cases were reported in Iloilo City.
This brings the total COVID-19 cases in Iloilo City to 6,003 with 294 active cases, 5,528 recoveries, and 180 deaths.
Despite the significant drop of Covid-19 cases in the metro, Mayor Jerry Treñas appealed to the public to continue in practicing health protocols.
The mayor also urged senior citizens, residents and even non-residents of Iloilo City to register for the Covid-19 vaccination roll-out of the city to protect themselves against the virus.
Currently, the city government is preparing for the vaccination of senior citizens and immunocompromised as the next priority list for the Covid-19 vaccines after the frontliners.
“I am calling on all senior citizens and, all immunocompromised who are not yet senior citizens with high blood, diabetes, those with cancer, heart problem, asthma, COPD, dialysis patients, and other condition requiring maintenance to register in the barangays or the malls where we have our registration areas,” he said.
