THE Carlos Hilado Memorial State College Community celebrated its3rd Greening CHMSC Week with the theme, “Fostering a Culture of Sustainability” from September 16-21, 2019.
The week-long celebration, observed across all 4 campuses by the Greening CHMSC Task Force and headed by its chair Mr. Rhoderick K. Samonte, showcased and highlighted programs and activities in line with core elements and dimensions of the institution’s operations namely: Green Community, Green Culture, Green Curriculum, Green Research, and Green Technology.
The celebration aims to heighten the awareness as well as the participation of the students, faculty, and staff in promoting and achieving CHMSC’s vision to be a leading green institution of higher learning in the global community by 2030.
Activities include a GREENovation Exhibit which showcased artworks of children from Project VITAL (Visualizing and Innovating Talents through Arts and Languages) and partner community Brgy 5, Talisay City, Essay-writing, Poster making, and Photography contest in Talisay Campus,Zero Waste School Fair in partnership with Project Himulat Community at Talisay Campus, an Eco-Exhibit contest, Climate Reality Acts of Leadership,and Green Living Quiz Bowl at Fortune Towne Campus, Dengue Awareness Talk in partnership with Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office and Rotary Club of Bacolod at Talisay and Fortune Towne campus.
Also part of the event was an Environmental Symposium on Fostering a Culture of Sustainability in partnership with DENR-PENRO at Binalbagan Campus, Galaw at Himig ng Kalikasan Competition at Binalbagan Campus,Mangrove Survival Assessment and Planting together with PeacePond in Enclaro, Binalbagan, Turn-over of Waste Management Signages by PeacePond at Binalbagan Campus, Green Leadership Seminar and Project Proposal Workshop in Talisay Campus, Series of Seminars on Sustainable Development & Environmental Education in all 4 campuses, a FreeCycle Day in all 4 Campuses which aims to promote the 3Rs; Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle and a campus clean-up in all 4 campuses.
The celebration was concluded by a community coastal clean-up in celebration of the International Coastal Clean-up: Battle for Litter Free Seas last September 21 at Brgy. Zone 15 Coastal Area joined by Greening CHMSC Task Force, CHMSC DRRM Director Mr. Perseus Bravo, Social Science Guild, and NSTP Class Section Fortitude together with DENR, Philippine Coastguard Auxiliary, Alpha Phi Omega, Talisay LGU and Brgy. Zone 15 at Brgy. Zone 15 Coastal Area.
250 Banana saplings and Madre de Cacao were also planted in observance of Greening CHMSC Week on a Banana planting activity at Fermin Campus Extension at EB Magalona participated by National Service and Training Program (NSTP) students, General Administrative Support Staff personnel, Dr. Edwin Villaruz Fermin Campus OIC, Extension Director Grace Nacionales, and Chief Admin Officer Rosalinda Tuvilla.
