BACOLOD City – Four persons, including two women were killed, while three others were injured after a man attacked them with a bolo at Barangay Balicotoc, Ilog, Negros Occidental Tuesday morning.

Killed were Melerna Magbato, 55; Ryan Olitan, 18; village councilman Leonilo Balsomo, 55; and Marianeta Magbato, 77.

The wounded were village councilman Jame Joy Tiaga, 29; Jessie Teroñes, 55; and Janice Elamparo, 34.

Police Major Norberto Barniso, town police chief, said the suspect identified as William Magbato, 52, allegedly hacked his wife, Melerna and his sister-in-law, Marianeta, who were sleeping at their house.

Then he went to his neighbor’s house and hacked Olitan.

The suspect later attacked the three other wounded victims who are confined at a hospital.

Balsomo shot Magbato but he also got hacked.

Army soldiers and barangay officials later arrested the suspect, who suffered two gunshot wounds on his arm.

Police recovered from the suspect a 24-inch bolo he used in the crime.

Barniso said they cannot yet determine the suspect’s reason for committing such violence.

“We just learned that he has not eaten for few days prior to the incident,” Barniso said.

Magbato has no derogatory records in the town, the town police chief said.

Multiple murder and frustrated murder charges will be filed against the suspect.
