ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Flooding caused by tropical depression “Agaton” that hit the country in April 2022 damaged 58 public schools in Capiz.

Dr. Salvador Ochavo Jr., Capiz Schools Division Superintendent, said the 58 schools are in the towns of Panay, Panit-an, Cuartero, Dumarao, Pilar, President Roxas, Sapian, Sigma, and Mambusao.

The damaged school properties included learning modules, computers and other learning materials.

It was fortunate that there were no face-to-face classes at the height of Agaton, thus students and school workers were spared.

Ochavo said local school officials have yet to assess the extent of damages caused by “Agaton.”

Meanwhile, Ochavo has announced that 10 schools will participate in the limited face-to-face classes that will start on May 16 this year.

He said that the Department of Education in Capiz has yet to receive an advisory whether to allow face-to-face graduations this year.
