BACOLOD City – Another batch of green sea turtle hatchlings were released back to the sea in a beach resort in Barangay Nauhang, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental last Monday.

A resort owner discovered these 60 sea turtle hatchlings on late Sunday night.

As part of the procedure, the hatchlings were secured in a tub with seawater, then they informed the Bantay Dagat to facilitate the releasing of the turtles.

The city government is encouraging everyone to be cautious if they spotted sea turtles, as they have a very low survival rate.

Only a few survive to adulthood and return to their nesting ground.

The city urged the public to inform the proper authorities upon discovering these marine creatures.

Last month, 53 sea turtle hatchlings believed to have been attracted in the lights at a resort, were also released in Barangay Nauhang, after they were spotted in the area.

According to the Bantay Dagat, the presence of sea turtles indicates a healthy and clean environment.
