70 nabbed for ‘tupada’

BACOLOD City – Police arrested 70 persons after they were allegedly caught engaging in illegal cockfighting at Hacienda Margarita, Barangay San Isidro, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental last Saturday.

The arrested individuals aged 21 to 77 years old were mostly from the neighboring city of Victorias.

Thirty of them are residents of the town while 40 others are residents of Victorias City, based on a police report.

Authorities recovered a live wounded fighting cock, two live fighting cocks, 15 dead fighting cocks, four gaffs, and P2948.

Police Captain Judesses Catalogo, public information officer of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), said that police acted on a report regarding the said illegal activity in the area.

Catalogo said that these individuals were arrested as they have no permit to conduct cockfighting, making the activity illegal.

Policemen are preparing the regular filing of cases against the suspects.
