A total of 81 rice retailers in the Province of Guimaras received cash assistance from government agencies on September 28, 2023 at Jordan Covered Gym in Poblacion, Jordan.
Thirty four of the beneficiaries came from the Municipality of Buenavista, 22 from San Lorenzo, 11 from Nueva Valencia, eight from Jordan, and six from Sibunag town.
Personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) facilitated the payout of Php 15,000.00 for each recipient with assistance from the Department of Agriculture and Department of Trade and Industry.
The disbursement of cash assistance is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to assist micro rice retailers who are affected by Executive Order No. 39 mandating price ceiling on rice.
Pursuant to EO No. 39, the mandated price of regular milled rice is Php 41.00 per kilo and Php 45.00 for well-milled rice.
The distribution of cash assistance aims to aid small rice retailers impacted by the said Executive Order.
