Ninety farmers from San Lorenzo received essential training in entrepreneurship and business record-keeping through a collaborative initiative led by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Guimaras and the Department of Agriculture Special Area for Agricultural Development Western Visayas (DA SAAD) Program.
The training, held on July 9, 2024, was simultaneously conducted at Barangay Cabano and Barangay Constancia.
The workshop benefited two local farmers’ associations: the Napuong Small Farmers Association, with 30 participants from Barangay Constancia, and the San Lorenzo South Corn and Cassava Farmers Association, with 60 participants from Barangay Cabano.
This initiative aimed to equip farmers with the necessary entrepreneurial skills and proper record-keeping techniques to enhance their operations and marketing of fresh produce.
“Farmers should also see themselves as business owners,” emphasized Mr. Ernie Rosendo Villanueva, Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer (APCO) for Guimaras, highlighting the importance of business acumen in agriculture.
DA SAAD Regional Facilitators Reah S. Gardoce, Gene P. Diaz, and Bryan Capunong were present to guide the participants through the activities.
Ms. Ghea Rodriguez, NC Business Counselor, provided insights into basic business recording, engaging participants from the San Lorenzo South Corn and Cassava Farmers Association.
The event was also supported by the Municipal Agriculture Office of San Lorenzo, reflecting a strong commitment to empowering local farmers and improving agricultural practices in the region.
