ROXAS CITY, Capiz A 33-year-old butcher died after a purported mentally ill person battered him with a piece of wood.
Meljohn Dellava of Poblacion Ilawod Maayon, Capiz was confined for two days before dying at the hospital on Wednesday.
Dellava succumbed to an injury on his forehead allegedly inflicted by Ronnie de Juan, 34, of Brgy. East Villaflores in Maayon town early Monday morning.
Dellava died Wednesday morning while at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Bailan District Hospital in Pontevedra, Capiz.
The incident happened while the victim has kick starting his tricycle inside the public market of Maayon town.
De Juan allegedly was startled when Dellava suddenly revved up the engine.
The suspect, who was sleeping in the public market, woke up, approached the victim, and asked him to stop it.
But Dellava refused and continued revving up the engine.
At that juncture, de Juan picked up a piece of wood placed beside him and hit the victim on the forehead and other parts of the body.
The victim was brought to the hospital while the suspect voluntarily surrendered to the police together with the piece of wood.
The family of the victim is readying charges against de Juan who is now detained in the lock up cell of Maayon police station.
