SOME heroes are made. Some heroes are born. And then there are those of us who have hearts of a hero. And the collective known as DKrew, made up of Ateneo de Iloilo Santa Maria Catholic Schools Batch 97, are shining examples of this. Championing themselves in fundraising and charitable missions the group recently held their second block screening event, this time for MCUs Captain Marvel at Festive Mall cinema 3 last March 6, 2019 in line with the celebration of Womens Month.
The charity block screening was for the benefit of Cameleon Association Philippines, a non-profit, non-government organization that helps and supports abused young girls in Western Visayas. This passion-driven organization aims to rehabilitate and inspire these young victims to dream beyond their limits and make it a reality for them to have bright and better lives. Cameleons mission clearly envisions a society where Filipino families and its communities are self-reliant, child-friendly, and free from all forms of abuse and violence.
Principally sponsored by Iloilo Supermart, The Daily Guardian, and Universal Touch Graphics & Printing, the fundraising was able to garner other sponsors like iExplore Travel, KK Pots Ornamentals, Succulents, and Cacti, IGS water station, Nice To Meat You and Mrs. Celia Garganta Patriarca. The movie was preceded by an awe-inspiring performance from Cirquera de Cameleon, an act composted of the young girls under rehabilitation as a form of therapy and confidence building.
The movie itself which features the titular character definitely exudes strength and inspiration as Captain Marvel. A deserving hero and champion for the next phase of Marvels Cinematic Universe. CAMELEONs Executive Director, madam Heide G. Foulc, expressed Captain Marvel signified an empowered woman, which is what CAMELEON strives for its beneficiaries to become and one of the key foundations of our mission. She added, As an organization that protects girls from sexual abuse and empowers them to reach their full potential, the story of Captain Marvel taught us that whatever power and strength we have do not matter, it is what we do with them that makes the difference.
DKrew is hopeful that this will be far from the last fund-raising mission and charity event it will hold. Head organizer, Mr. Alain William Tiu stated, A little ray of sunlight can brighten a world of hopeless children. Changing colors. Changing lives. Truly they are a crew with hearts of a hero.
