HUA SIONG College of Iloilo (HSCI) Red Lion Cement outlasted Passi City, 67-52, in the SBP Chairman’s Cup U15 at the HSCI – Ledesco covered gym, May 16.
The team of coach Victor Palileo took advantage of their height and heft in the paint.
Passi City tried to come back in the last canto but Hua Siong limited their scoring.
J Ubamos top scored for HSCI with 14 points.
Meanwhile, Julius Pacificador pummelled Bing Conlu Team with 14 points as they blasted Sta. Clarita International School (SCIS) – Asian Link, 36-34. John Maverick Villanueva scored 10 points for the losing squad.
According to Philip Punzalan Doce, the team lost by a minimal margin because they rattled in the last minute of the ball game.
“Medyo lugi lang subong na game kay daw gin malas kami sa last one minute. But I know we can bounce back and improve our flaws in the next game. We will give other teams a good fight this season,” he added.
University of San Agustin routed Flying Lizards Draco in the next match, 73-32.
AJ Ferrer was limited to just seven points in the game but managed to rotate the ball wisely for a series of successful baskets. Ricky Delos Santos also struggled in the paint and only gave the Lizards 10 points.
In the U12 games, Pavia beat Oton Templars, 56-35; while Iloilo Central Elementary School (ICES) thrashed PAREF-Westbridge, 64-31.
The SBP Chairmans Cup continues today, May 17, at 9 a.m. with Pavia taking on PAREF-Westbridge.
Other games will feature USA versus Assumption Passi (10 a.m.), Colegio de San Jose versus Oton Templars (11 a.m.), Flying Lizards versus Bing Conlu Team (1 p.m.), Purisima Roxas City 12-U versus HSCI (2 p.m.), and Purisima Roxas City 15-U versus PAREF-Westbridge (3 p.m.)
