NATIONAL PRISAA 2019: WV still undefeated in volleyball

SPIKERS from Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) maintained their unblemished record in the ongoing National PRISAA 2019 after eliminating their respective opponents at the University of Mindanao – Matina campus on May 23. 

The region’s team in both tertiary men’s and women’s volleyball are now in the semifinal round. 

In the women’s division, the squad represented by Central Philippine University (CPU) defeated Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in the quarterfinals, 25-28, 25-19, 25-23.

The team also posted a come-from-behind victory against host-Davao Region during their eliminations clash, 26-28, 17-25, 25-18, 25-20, 20-18.

On the other hand, WVPRISAA men’s volleyball team is also back in the semis after walloping Central Luzon, 25-16, 27-25, 25-17.

Before completing the final four casts, the CPU-led student-athletes outplayed Region 9 in three straight sets, 25-18, 25-13, 25-16. The team hopes to retain their championship crown this year. 

TAEKWONDO

Ilonggo jins also harvested gold medals in taekwondo events.

CPU stalwart AJ Cindy Joy Diasnes won two gold medals in the secondary girls’ Individual B and Team Poomsae.

The A Diasnes Gym mainstay partnered with Sophia Marie Tungala and Negrense Jamie Hannah Agaloos to capture the gold medal in secondary girls’ Team Poomsae.

Alfie Diasnes, Draico Gantalao, and Zachary Te Aguirre also bagged the gold medal in the tertiary men’s Team Poomsae. Aguirre also snatched the gold medal in the tertiary men’s Individual and silver Mixed Pair Poomsae.

Gantalao added another gold in tertiary men’s Individual B Poomsae.

Ilonggo coaches Allan Diasnes and Quinn Pauline Hormigoso were also recognized as Best Coaches in the tertiary level.

Palaro gold medalist AJ Horlador III won a gold medal in tertiary men’s Kyorugi.

Nikka Vidallon replicated Horlador’s gold medal finish with her own gold in the tertiary women’s Kyorugi. The two jins were later hailed Best Players of the tertiary division.

Meanwhile, Angela Joy Marie Bermejo failed to advance to the finals after bowing to CAR in the semis, 22-19.
