THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Western Visayas kicked off the DENR Day event on June 10, 2019 with a foot parade. It is part of the many activities lined-up for the month-long celebration of the Environment Month with the theme: “Beat Air Pollution.”
Advocating for clean air, DENR officials and employees has shown the Ilonggos an event can be made more unique with a foot parade. No toxic gas emission. No harm to the environment.
DENR-6 officials and employees joined the foot parade which started at the Sunburst Park Iloilo at 6:45 a.m., down to Plaza Libertad, Gen. Hughes Street, Fort San Pedro, and culminated at the DENR-6 regional office compound. Despite the early morning showers, the foot parade continued as scheduled.
After the foot parade, a mass was officiated by Rev. Fr. Renato C. Cuadras at the regional office for all employees and was followed with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the formal opening of the Tiangge sa DENR.
The latter is set-up at the regional office’s Courtyard where products from DENR–accredited Peoples Organizations (POs) are also put on display, and both the employees and clients can buy the products.
Products on display and for sale include handmade recycled handicrafts, native foods, fruits, even Hablon shawls.
DENR’s Tiangge booths are manned by the offices under the Technical Services and Management Services, and the two line bureaus – the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB).
Also, the Tiangge for the Regional Public Affairs Office (RPAO) had distributed Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign materials on different DENR programs and projects.
Tiangge sa DENR runs until June 27, 2019.
This year is the 32nd DENR Anniversary. The Department was created by virtue of Executive Order No. 192, signed on June 10, 1987.
June is a special month in the DENR calendar as it is observed as the Environment Month. (DENR-6)
