BACOLOD City – A six-month-old baby girl drowned in a pail of water mixed with oxalic at Libertad Public Market in Barangay 40 here early Monday.
Police Major Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 6, identified the fatality as Lianna Mae Alora.
Bonilla said the baby was sleeping with her parents but they did not notice that she woke up and fell into the pail filled with oxalic-laden water. The couple was supposed to use the water for cleaning the market stall.
The parents discovered the incident at around 2 a.m.
The victim was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, a man who slipped past a police anti-gambling raid at Barangay Anduluan in Ilog, Negros Occidental on June 12, 2019 was found dead in a river in Kabankalan City the following day.
Police identified the fatality as Hernan Arroz, 33, of the said village.
Police Major Norberto Barniso, Ilog town police chief, said they mounted the raid after some residents complained of alleged gambling activities and drinking sessions at Anduluan.
“They were loud and disturbing some residents, which prompted us to respond to the said complaint on Wednesday night,” Barniso added.
When police responded, Arroz and some of his colleagues tried to escape.
Four of them jumped into the river but only three were arrested.
Arroz was found floating at Talubangi River the following day.
He was bloated and suffered injuries on his neck, left thigh, and eyes.
