BACOLOD City – Two local political parties that showed “unity” in the May 13, 2019 polls appear to be headed for splitsville in the election of the Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL)-Negros Occidental chapter.
What’s at stake in the PCL election anyway?
The president automatically becomes an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
The two parties involved are Love Negros Team of Incoming Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) of outgoing Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr.
Current PCL president and Board Member Macho Alonso will vacate the post after he won as board member representing the 6th district of the province.
Lacson earlier told Aksyon Radyo that Love Negros will have a candidate from the 6th district file for the PCL presidency.
On the other hand, reports persists that a councilor from the 2nd district, who is also a UNegA member is eyeing the same post.
Before the 2019 midterm elections, UNegA and Love Negros Team forged an alliance under the unified tandem of Lacson for governor and former congressman Jeffrey Ferrer for vice governor
Both are set to assume their respective posts come noontime of June 30, 2019.
