BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang (PHO) said over the weekend that they have recorded a 77 percent increase in the number dengue cases.
Tumimbang said from January to June of this year, 2,800 dengue cases were reported, compared to 1,600 recorded in the same period last year.
Records provided by Tumimbang also show that the cities of Kabankalan, San Carlos, Bago, Cadiz, and the town of Cauayan had the highest number of cases.
The PHO head also reported 20 fatalities due to the mosquito-borne disease. Cadiz City had the highest number of fatalities followed by the cities of Escalante, San Carlos and the town of Candoni.
Tumimbang advised the public to always maintain cleanliness in their community, especially this rainy season, and to destroy any possible nesting grounds for mosquitoes which spread dengue.
