BACOLOD City – An elderly man died while his son-in-law was injured after they were allegedly shot by their neighbor at Barangay Culipapa, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental on July 16, 2019.
Killed was Nemosthenes Ampil, 60, while wounded was Teresito Cortes, 58.
Police Major Jerry Nacion, town police chief, said the shooting incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
When police responded, they found out that a certain Dado Furtogaleza, who was on the third floor of his house, allegedly fired an unidentified long firearm several times for still unknown reason, hitting Ampil’s left leg and Cortes’s right arm.
Ampil was lying on a hammock inside his room when he was hit. He was brought to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Nacion said they did not recover the firearm or ammunitions from the scene. The suspect is still at-large.
Nacion said they did not know why the suspect has a firearm, and his family also denied the allegations against him.
“We are trying to check if it was intentional or not since they have no previous misunderstanding with the victim’s family to trigger the incident,” he added.
