AUTHORITIES have yet to trace or even identify the tourist who went viral on social media in a pooping video episode in the white beach area of Boracay Island in Aklan.
Boracay Interagency Rehabilitation Group General Manager Natividad Bernardino said on Friday that identifying the tourist seemed to be a “hopeless case.”
This is contrary to reports that the “foreign” tourist was already identified. She was allegedly Chinese but the authorities will not pursue charges against her.
“The Bureau of Immigration is also trying to ascertain the identity of the tourist, and so is the local police,” she said.
However, Bernardino said she has not received word that the tourist has been identified.
The area where the pooping incident happened was closed on Wednesday for fears of contamination.
It was reopened on Thursday after water quality rests showed that it was safe for swimming.
Bernardino said the test done by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)-6 showed that the coliform level in the area is less than 1 most probable number (MPN) per 100 milliliter (ml), which is the safe level for human activities.
Coliform refers to a wide variety of bacteria that can be found throughout the environment, including human and animal feces.
